Admission Criteria

The programme will suit you if:

  1. you are looking to understand and explore European languages, society and culture in depth; and want to acquire a higher degree certifying a well-trained mind, so as to pursue a career relating to, or interacting with, Europe, in the political, cultural or administrative fields
  2. if you are interested in going on from your Masters to Doctoral research, prior to pursuing a career in Higher Education in your own country/in Europe.

The Master's programme is open to students who have:

  1. successfully completed an undergraduate degree in the field of Arts, Languages or Social Sciences; particularly a Modern Languages Degree (e.g. language, literature, thought and cultural studies programmes of a high, specialised level relating to one or more of the following: Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain – or Europe as a whole)
  2. have an attested level of First Class or 2:1 Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree (or equivalent)
  3. are among the top 5-10 students of their year
  4. possess a near-native, degree-level command of TWO of the following European Languages: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish – together with a basic knowledge of, or a willingness to acquire, a THIRD European language.

If you wish to apply for direct entry into the second year of the programme, you have to show, additionally, that you have already at least four years of relevant coursework in Higher Education behind you.
